The choir has been at the centre of music making in Chelmsford, under a succession of inspiring conductors, for almost 90 years. During this time we have performed major choral works with symphony orchestras and baroque ensembles, classical and modem works with chamber groups and jazz bands as well as madrigals and part-songs a capella or with organ or piano. We have performed with many well-established soloist as well as those at the start of their careers. Performing at least 3 concerts a year, both within Chelmsford Cathedral and further afield, we add significantly to the cultural life of our city.
Currently under the directorship of James Davy (Organist and Master of Choristers at Chelmsford Cathedral), we continue to expand our repertoire and enjoy new musical challenges! With choir members of all ages, we have an active social life and also have an exciting tour programme, travelling abroad for concert tours around every 2 years.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings. For more information see here. After rehearsals, we can be found propping up the bar of the Ship in Broomfield Road. Come and join us!
