Summer is coming to an end.  The weather has been good.  Holidays have been varied for many, with some members of Chelmsford Singers attending song schools, workshops and trips with different choirs.  Some took part in the lighting of a beacon in Chelmsford to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, whilst others sang in Chelmsford High Street during the Chelmsford Fringe Festival.  Other members have had a more relaxing summer break, enjoying the weather at home, spending time with family and friends, or just chilling in their space.

The thing that brings us together is our choir and for us all that starts again very soon, with rehearsals starting again on Tuesday, 6^th September and we are looking forward to an exciting, and challenging start to the new singing year.

Rehearsals for our Summer concert Music for Monarchs are coming on apace – we’ve been enjoying revisiting some old favourite pieces, including Britten’s Choral Dances from Gloriana, Parry’s coronation anthem I was glad, as well as less familiar works including a setting of Psalm 100 by HRH Prince Albert, and a brand-new arrangement of Greensleeves written for this concert by our musical director James Davy.

The mixture of music from the 16^th century to the 20^th is challenging but very rewarding and the concert will also feature pieces for organ and piano, including piano duets written for HM the Queen and her sister Princess Margaret. We hope that you can join us to hear the results!

Thank you so much for a really enjoyable concert last night: it came over really well and the audience was full of enthusiasm for programme and performance, so the communication came across as hoped! Among the comments at the door the words ‘beautiful’ and ‘fun’ featured a lot and everyone was really glad to support us as we make a way to a full year’s singing.

It was great to have Tom Stapleton back and his solos were a real high point; the choir’s accompaniment of him in Ca’ the Yowes and Brigg Fair was really sensitive and colourful and there were lots of moments through the evening where the unusual textures and moods were captured perfectly, including the end of Ca’ the Yowes, which was quite magical!  Matthew worked hard on the McDowall and provided an unshakeable support in the more rhythmically demanding moments and it was good to hear his solos too.

This year we think it’s important to take some time to focus on yourself, and what’s really important. What better way to that, than to have experiences that will last a lifetime? 5. THE “MOMENT”
   If you’ve ever gone to a concert, you know what we’re talking about. If you yet to experience the “moment,” we urge you to stop what you’re doing, buy a ticket, and get in the pit. When the stars are aligned, it’s like your life has led you up to this point in time, for this glorious feeling of being alive, being you, and being on the planet to experience THIS.

6. MUSIC IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
   “Music is the medicine of the mind.” Research says people who go to more concerts are happier and healthier than people who don’t. Music has been shown to decrease the release of stress hormones and pain relief by releasing endorphins, neurotransmitters that block pain. Music is not only good for your health, but it’s good for your mind. Studies have shown that people who attend more concerts have a greater sense of well-being than people who don’t.

7. CONCERTS SPREAD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
   Concerts are a bonding experience, and can bring people of different cultures and backgrounds together peacefully. No matter where you come from, once you walk through those venue doors everyone surrounding you is there for the same reason. Even at a sold out show, the feeling of connection is overwhelming. You just can’t get that same feeling many other places.

8. OH, THE STORIES YOU CAN TELL
   Life is all about making memories and having experiences to share. Some of the best memories to share are ones surrounded by music. Whether it was your first concert, your first music festival, or the best show you’ve ever seen, you’ll have a story to tell that few others do. The crazy sold out nights, low-key acoustic sets, and once-in-a-lifetime rare musical moments will provide great stories to tell. No one can take them away from you.

9. DISCOVERY
   One of the greatest things about music is the vast amount of options that you have. The glass is never full when it comes to discovering new music. There’s something for every taste, mood, and experience. Next time your local bar has live music playing, go check it out. You may not only discover a new favorite band, but you’ll discover some things about yourself along the say. Never say no to live music.

Rehearsals for 2020 begin on Tuesday14th January

Rehearsals are going well for our next Concert which will be our Christmas Concert at 7pm on Saturday 7th December 2019 at Christchurch URC, New London Road, Chelmsford CM2 0AW . Creating a minimalist apartment in 2021 can be one best investment that you can do.

The children of Our Lady Immaculate school will be joining us to sing A Light in the Stable a musical telling of the Christmas story by Alan Bullard together with other carols and festive pieces. Buy Tickets Here.

On Sunday Nov 3rd, Chelmsford Singers will be performing James Briggs’ Requiem with the Cathedral Choir as part of the Choral Evensong at 3.30pm. On Sunday November 10th we will be performing at 6pm, in Chelmsford Cathedral, Music and Readings for Remembrance Sunday. We will be singing extracts from the Requiem and other Remembrance-themed items. Utilizing solar panel in your home is definitely better for the environment as compared with other sources of energy.

There is no charge for entry to these services.

After another year of happy singing we are taking a short break now until 10th September. All are very welcome to come along and meet us out at our Open rehearsal. We do not hold auditions so why not try us? click this site to learn about this.
